About us
JEWLIF (Jüdisches Leben in Europa e.V., "Jewish Life in Europe") is a non-profit organisation. Together with actors and partner organisations from civil society, education, the media, the arts and culture, we make the diversity of Jewish life visible and foster engagement across society as a whole.
JEWLIF emerged from the #2021JLID anniversary year, 1,700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany, and from debates about a contemporary culture of remembrance. Founded on 30 March 2023, JEWLIF builds on this momentum: its central aim is to strengthen diverse Jewish perspectives across Europe.
VISION
JEWLIF is committed to a Europe that recognises Jewish life as a natural part of society. Our starting point is the diverse cultural, religious, social and political character of Jewish identities: we make this diversity visible, value it and protect it. Across Germany and Europe, we create spaces for Jewish empowerment and intercultural exchange, encourage voluntary engagement and strengthen participation in society, many-voiced, democratic and on an equal footing.
MISSION
As a platform for dialogue, JEWLIF pursues a positive, whole-of-society approach:
- At the heart of our work is support for organisations, initiatives and projects that make Jewish life in Europe approachable. At the same time, we firmly oppose antisemitism and discrimination in all their forms.
- We draw on established educational formats and reach people in their everyday lives: through dialogue, personal encounter and creative approaches, for example through art, music, sport and other shared activities.
- JEWLIF brings together organisations, experts and civil-society actors across Europe who are committed to an open, democratic society through their work in academia, the media and civic engagement.
