Objective
Our aim is to convey knowledge about Jewish life in Europe and about the Holocaust through the personal stories of survivors. At its heart are the biographies of fourteen Jewish women who lived through the twentieth century. Through their life stories, Centropa makes Jewish life tangible, meaningful and relatable for young Europeans.
IMAGINE seeks to foster a deeper understanding of Jewish history and the Jewish present, as a contribution to implementing the EU strategy on combating antisemitism and to strengthening public awareness.
Through its activities, the project will produce a wide range of materials such as lesson plans, posters and explanatory videos.
To reach as many people across Europe as possible, IMAGINE is supported by a strong network of committed partners: Centropa (Germany & Hungary), Galicia Jewish Museum (Poland), Center for Education Policy (Serbia), HERMES (Croatia), International Commission (Lithuania), University of Patras (Greece) and JEWLIF (Germany).
The project is generously funded by the European Union under the CERV-2024-CITIZENS-REM programme.
Project outputs
Workshops for university students
In each project country (Germany, Lithuania, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Poland and Greece), two-day workshops will take place at universities. Although the dates are not yet fixed, we already look forward to the valuable exchange and to the project results, teaching materials and posters, that will grow out of the students’ commitment.
Workshops for school pupils
We are also planning one-day workshops for school pupils in each project country (Germany, Lithuania, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Poland and Greece). These events will focus on local forms of remembrance, while always keeping the connection between the stories of Jewish women and history on a broader level at their centre.
Training seminars for teachers
At Centropa, we believe it is essential to give teachers the knowledge and tools to convey ethical reflection, the meaning of remembrance and collaborative learning. IMAGINE therefore includes two transnational training seminars for teachers, in Kraków and Belgrade. Further information on how to apply will follow shortly.
Voices of Remembrance
This series of online webinars, held separately in each project country, aims to create short animated explanatory videos on local aspects of Holocaust history and remembrance culture. We will present the videos at our joint transnational online conference, and rest assured, they will also be made available to the general public online.
Commemorative events
We are pleased that the IMAGINE project also includes commemorative events in each of the project countries. We will make local Jewish history visible through city walks, public film screenings and poster exhibitions, the latter produced in the student workshops mentioned above.
